The key message this week is that you have to prioritize your health to maintain normal optimal function as you age.
A concept called the Selective Optimization
and Compensation Theory explains how people will adapt to functional limitations
by optimizing things they can do in order to compensate for what they can not do.
This is normally a consequence of the aging process. Our bodies do not last
forever and they will definitely degenerate over time until we die. The good news is
that your body will last a lifetime if you consistently take care of your body. The best
way to do this is by living the Chiropractic Lifestyle. This approach has been
proven to be the best way to maintain lifelong optimal function and self-efficacy.
It has been reported
that in the last 6 months of a person’s life 50% will end up in the hospital
due to functional limitations, frailty, dementia, and caregiver exhaustion.
Ironically, a very small percentage of people are in the hospital due to a disease
process. The number one reason for hospitalization is functional limitations. Therefore,
the lifestyle you lead now will determine your future.
If you are young, you
may think you have plenty of time. However, an accumulation of stress and neglect
can lead to premature functional loss. Now is the time to be proactive and
practice healthy habits that I teach, promote, and recommend.
I will continue to lead
the way and be the change for inspiration, motivation, and belief for people who are willing to listen and practice what I teach. The choice is yours.
